With all humility go back to the classroom – NPP begs UTAG

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Communication team, Mr Denis Miracle Aboagye has appealed to the University Teachers Association of Ghana(UTAG) to returned to the classroom while engaging with the necessary authorities to address their grievances.

According to him, although the teachers had genuine concerns in embarking on the strike action, the students were the ones to suffer the brunt of the strike action and appeal to them to return for the sake of the students.

Mr Aboagye made the appeal on TV3 NewDay on Wednesday, August 3, monitored by GhanaPlus.com.

“…..for me, what I want to do is appeal to the University teachers to indicate to them that whatever the issues are at the end of the day, there is a beneficiary and a victim in this particular discussions. And the beneficiary and victim at this point is the students of the universities and so if the NLC is saying that they are not done with the negotiations with and the negotiations are still ongoing, I think they should please with all humility, for the sake of the students go back to the classroom, at least let them write their exams.”

“Whatever the point is, these students are the ones who are going to suffer. The teachers should go back and negotiate with whoever they have to negotiate with and then the students can also can make progress from where they are,” he said.

Abavare, respectively, asked members to lay down their tools and stay off teaching, examinations and invigilation, marking of examination scripts and processing of results until further notice.

The decision was as a result of government’s refusal to heed to calls by the association to improve the worsening conditions of service of the university teachers.
