Adisco teachers were only interested in harming students

Ghanaian musician Wanlov the Kubolor has criticised what he describes as a culture of excessive authority during his time at Adisadel College (Adisco), saying some teachers prioritised control over education.

Speaking in an interview with media personality Kafui Dey, Wanlov said he quickly observed a pattern after entering the school.

“By the time I got to Adisadel College, I realised that our teachers were more interested in showing power and inflicting harm than imparting knowledge,” he said.

“The power play. Over knowledge impartation.” He recounted an incident from his first year when he saw a student walking during class hours. A teacher confronted the student and asked why he was not in class.

“He just showed that he was breathing,” Wanlov said. “The master said, ‘Ah, that’s very good. Now go and bath and get ready and go to class.’”

Wanlov suggested that such disciplinary methods reflected a system where authority often overshadowed learning.
