Inferiority complex is a silent struggle we must address – Helen Paul
Comedian Helen Paul delved into the complex issues surrounding self-worth and societal expectations during her appearance on the Honest Bunch podcast monitored by MyNewsGh.
She highlighted how people often feel pressured to project an image of success, even when they struggle internally.
“Everyone has some level of inferiority complex,” Helen said. “Sometimes, you want to impress people, snapping pictures with flashy cars like Bugattis to post online. But deep down, you’re only trying to convince yourself, not them.”
She emphasized that true self-worth cannot be found in material possessions or societal validation.
“If you’re snapping Bugatti pictures to post on Instagram, you’re likely only impressing yourself. At the end of the day, it’s about feeling good within.”
Helen also touched on familial pressures, especially for those in public-facing professions. “When you’re on TV, family members often think you have so much money. My mom, for instance, would calculate feeding money for weeks and then call with a new figure.”
However, she revealed her humorous strategy for managing such expectations. “I started giving my mom’s twin sister money and told her to share it with my mom however she wanted. That way, I balanced the pressure without losing my peace.”
