My Lagos friend I was perching ‘ejected me’ into the street
Nigerian Comic actor Mr Ibu has told a harrowing story about his life which he believes lessons should be learnt from.
Ibu shared this testimony at the Freedom For All Nations Outreach.
In 1997 when he was a nobody and hassling the streets of Legos, he used to perch in a friend’s one-bedroom apartment.
He said although he was elderly, he used to wash his friend’s clothes and cleans the house just because the friend was the one paying the rent.

Ibu said life went on smooth sailing although not all he wished for in life was achieved, the fact that there was a roof over his head was a blessing enough.
However, life took a sad turn when his friend he had been perching decided to go to the village for Christmas festivities.
“My friend in December 1997 said he was going to the village to celebrate Christmas. I decided not to go because I did not have money that will take me to the village and back. My friend told me he does not want anyone in his room when he is gone. I told him he has no problem because I will not bring anyone there but he told me even me he doesn’t want me in there. He said he wants to lock his door and leave for the village. I pleaded with him that I’ve nowhere to go so he should be considerate, the anger in him forced him to go into the room and pick my bag. He threw me out of the house that day,” he said.

He continued “that day a lot of thoughts were running through my head and I thought of killing myself. There was a well in the house where people draw water from so I decided to throw myself in there to end it all but when I looked into the well, what I saw was my mother’s face and that drew me back to rescind my decision. I was encouraged by Michael Bolton’s song, when I’m back on my feet again”.
“While I was wandering on the streets I got to a place and found out that Pete Edochie was there and there was actually auditions for a new production. I met someone called Stella Eze who asked me to accompany her. It was through accompanying her that I met a friend who was based in Germany and wanted me to come live with him. So he picked me up and we went to my old place where I had been sacked to take all my stuff and move to his house. Six months after living in my friend’s apartment, God started to bless me.”
