Ghanaian Filmmaker, Socrate Safo has slammed renowned Ghanaian Media Personality and Entrepreneur, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana for calling out entertainment pundits and Dic Jockeys(DJs) for not playing the songs of celebrated musician, Shatta Wale.
Speaking on Entertainment Review on Peace FM on Saturday, July 9, monitored by GhanaPlus.com, he said pundits and DJs do not owe any artiste neither are they oblige to promote them.
He said artiste are business on their own and as such must be able to put in place structures to promote their songs when released.
Mr Safo who is also the Director for Creative Arts at the National Commission on Culture said the comment by the renowned media practitioner creates the impression that pundits and DJs owe the artiste such a duty.
“When it comes to artist I always say that we don’t owe any artist any favour. Is not our responsibility that by force, we oblige to support or push anything, no no no. You have your management; you are a business on your own as an artiste,” Mr Safo said.
“You are the one with your business plan and strategy to push your work so that is not my work so if Abeiku says that Wale has released a songs and we are not pushing it and all that as if it’s our job. What touches our heart and how we feel is what we will do so for this one, I don’t agree with Abeiku. They way he is saying it as we are oblige to,” he emphasized.
Mr Safo is of the view that pundits and DJs have limits as far as promoting artiste is concern.
