Andre Ayew delighted with three points and thanks Ghanaians for their support
Andre Ayew stated that the Black Stars’ poor performance against Ethiopia was due to the fact that their opponents were difficult to push aside.
The Qatar-based striker also praised the Black Stars fans who flocked to Cape Coast to cheer on the squad as they began their 2022 World Cup qualification campaign.
Ghana’s campaign kicked off at Cape Coast with a 1-0 win over Ethiopia. This was due to Mubarak Wakaso’s first-half goal.
The Black Stars dominated the game from the start, propelled by Jordan and Andre Ayew in attack. They also launched several attacks on Ethiopia’s goalkeeper Teklemariam Shanko and defense.
Ghana won the game in the 35th minute after Wakaso’s 20-yard shot was stopped erroneously by Shanko as it got between his legs.
The second half was full with rare possibilities, which led to Ghana’s first Group G triumph.
“Three points. Nothing comes easy. Not a full stadium but great atmosphere. We thank all Ghanaians for the support and love … we keep going,” Ayew posted on Friday night after the game.
