Ghana legend Dan Owusu wants Otto Addo maintained as Black Stars coach
Legendary Ghana forward Dan Owusu has called on the Ghana Football Association to maintain Otto Addo and his technical team to lead the Black Stars ahead of the World Cup to be staged in Qatar.
The domestic football governing body hired Addo after the sacking of Milovan Rajevac on the back of an abysmal performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Addo has guided the four-time African champions to qualify for the 2022 World Cup after silencing noisy neighbours, Nigeria
The Black Stars held the Super Eagles to a 1-1 draw which secured them a spot at the Mundial in Qatar this year’s after qualifying with 1-1 aggregate.
Arsenal star Thomas Partey opened the scoring of the decisive game after 10 minutes at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong converted a penalty to draw the Super Eagles level after a VAR decision in the 22nd minute.
In an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the former Kotoko star entreated the Ghana FA to retain Otto Addo and his technical team ahead of the World Cup.
“Otto Addo is a fantastic coach, in the first leg, he delayed in his substitution as Milovan did but I was happy he didn’t repeat it in Abuja. Now he has qualified the team to the World Cup and looking at his style of coaching I think he should be given the job permanently”
“If we are able to maintain him for about two years, I believe he can change the narrative with the Black Stars” he said.
Ghana is expected to know their group opponents on Friday, April 1, 2022 in Doha, Qatar.
The four-time African Champions are in pot 4 with Kurt Okraku and other Ghana FA officials expected to fly out of the country for the 72nd congress in Qatar.
The Black Stars team on Wednesday met Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo after securing qualification to the World Cup over noisy neighbours Nigeria.
