Ghana to face South Africa & Sao Tome without Andre Ayew

The Black Stars of Ghana will be without the services of talismanic captain Andre Ayew for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers this month, FMIG can confirm.
FMIG sources reveal the player albeit willing to join his colleagues cannot make the trip for Ghana’s games against South Africa and Sao Tome later this month.
This is due to his club’s loath to allow him travel for the assignments due to Covid-19 restrictions in the UK.
FMIG checks at his club Swansea City reveal their reluctance to release him is due to recent travel arrangements per Covid-19 in the UK. Presently, persons visiting the UK shall undergo a 10-day mandatory quarantine upon arrival. This means should Andre Ayew be allowed to join the Black Stars camp, he’s to go through such a process when he returns.
This could lead to him missing couple of matches for Swansea City who are chasing promotion from the Championship to the English Premier League.
Under the current dispensation,
FIFA have stated that clubs are not duty-bound to release their players for international assignments due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The development will serve as a blow to Coach Charles Akonnor’s plans although it won’t affect Ghana’s chances of qualification.
The Black Stars have already booked a ticket to the tournament with two games to spare and in the absence of the stellar names, Ghana will rely on the local component of Black Stars players called up from the various Premier League clubs.
