Kudus back with a goal: 'Good for my confidence and match rhythm'

Mohammed Kudus is happy to finally be able to really be part of Ajax again. The Ghanaian has had many setbacks in recent months due to injuries, but he returned with a goal against Fortuna Sittard.

“It feels good to be back,” he told NOS. “It’s nice to help your team get three points. It’s good for my self-confidence and I’m getting a race rhythm.’

It goes without saying that Kudus is disappointed with his injuries, but he knows he can’t do anything about it. ‘I try to control everything myself. The rest I leave to God. I do my best to keep fit. Nobody wants to get injured, but when that happens, it’s important to recover and get back to the team.”

Now that Kudus is back, he faces a fierce competition to qualify for minutes of playing in the attacking midfield position. However, he doesn’t mind. ‘That’s the way it is everywhere. It’s a healthy battle because everyone lifts each other to the next level. We push each other every day to get better.’

Sjors Ultee, trainer of Tuesday’s opponent, sees a team in Ajax that belongs to the world top. Kudus agrees, although he wants Ajax to show it first. “Now it’s up to us to show it in the Champions League as well, but I definitely think we have the talent to be at the top.”
