Leicester City lose Ghanaian defender Daniel Amartey three more weeks due to AFCON
English Premier League side Leicester City will miss the services of Ghanaian defender Daniel Amartey for three more weeks due to his participation in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
The much-anticipated tournament has been scheduled between January 9 and February 6, 2022 in Cameroon.
Ghana is among the 24 country’s set to battle for the covetous trophy in the Central Africa country.
Amartey, who has been instrumental for the Foxes made the 30-man provisional squad released by Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac.
The team is expected to pitch camp in Doha, Qatar on Friday, December 24, 2021 which means Amartey will have to leave his club early to join Black Stars teammates for training camp.
A statement from the Ghanaian FA last week confirmed the Black Stars would take part in a training camp in Qatar three weeks prior to the competition.
“The team will be in Doha for a period of three weeks to prepare for the Tournament scheduled for Cameroon from January 9 to February 6, 2022,” said a statement on the website.
“The Black Stars will play three international friendly matches in Qatar to give Coach Milovan Rajevac the opportunity to assess his squad for the Tournament.
“The Black Stars will depart Doha for Yaoundé on Friday, January 7, 2022 to take on the rest of Africa at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.”
