Leweling snubs Ghana, receives call up to Germany U21

Not only Hansi Flick has nominated his new squad, U21 national coach Stefan Kuntz has also named a new squad.

SpVgg Greuther Furth player Jamie Leweling was called up by Germany U21 coach Kuntz. The youngster was previously called by Black Stars coach CK Akonnor for the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan.

U21 coach Stefan Kuntz has announced his squad ahead of the two away games of the qualification for the U21 European Championship, which will take place from June 9 to July 2, 2023 in Georgia and Romania.

On September 2, the DFB-Elf will have to play against San Marino in Serravalle, on September 7 they will play against Latvia in Riga.

Looking at the squad is noticeable. With Armel Bella Kotchap (VfL Bochum), Lars Lukas Mai (SV Werder Bremen), Malick Thiaw (FC Schalke 04), Shinta Appelkamp (Fortuna Dusseldorf), Jonathan Burkardt (FSV Mainz 05) and Youssoufa Moukoko (Borussia Dortmund) are six players who took part in the U21 European Championships in Hungary and Slovenia – sometimes without commitment.

In total, Kuntz has nominated 21 players born between 2000 and 2004. 16 players are about to play for the first time in the U21, including BVB professional Moukoko and VfL defender Bella-Kotchap.

Kuntz emphasizes on the DFB homepage: “The new year has a lot of potential. We hope that the boys can go on a similarly successful path as their predecessors. We will use the coming days to bring the U21 DNA closer to the new players , because we want to keep showing our hearts on and off the pitch. So I’m glad that some players have already played at the European Championship and can now move forward. “
