Major League Soccer will broadcast the whole 2022 season on ESPN in Africa

The 2022 Major League Soccer [MLS] season begins this weekend, following the shortest off-season in the league’s history, and will be broadcast on ESPN [DStv 218, Starsat 248] across Africa.

On February 26, the Philadelphia Union will face Minnesota United at 20:00, followed by a match between Columbus Crew and Vancouver Whitecaps at 22:30.

The action continues on Sunday, when Orlando City takes on CF Montreal at 20:00 and Atlanta United takes on Sporting Kansas City at 22:00.

This season, there will be a wide range African players on the pitch. Minnesota United beat out a number of other teams to sign Maritzburg United’s potential Bafana Bafana international striker Bongokuhle Hlongwane.

Tsiki Ntsabeleng, a South African youth prospect, has joined FC Dallas after being picked with the 28th choice in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft. Ntsabeleng agreed to a one-year contract with the Texans, with club options until 2025.

Yaw Yeboah, who has four Ghana caps, has signed a three-year contract with Columbus Crew after arriving from Polish club Wisla Krakow. James Igbekeme, a Nigerian left winger on loan from Real Zaragoza, has also joined The Crew.

Meanwhile, experienced Ghanaian fullback Harrison Afful left Columbus Crew after seven years to accept a one-year contract with expansion team Charlotte FC.
