Pressure mounts for Jean Mensa to mount witness box

Pressure is mounting across all social media platforms to cause the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa to testify in the ongoing election petition.

Lawyers of the EC on Monday, February 8, moved for the closure of the election petition filed by the 2020 flag bearer of the National Democratic (NDC), John Dramani Mahama  to among other things declare as null and void, election results announced by the EC chair on December 9, 2020.

According to EC’s lawyer, Justice Amenuvor, given the petitioner’s witnesses evidence during the cross examination, the 1^st Respondents do not wish to lead any further evidence.

“Given the evidence of the petitioner’s witnesses under cross examination so far, of those witnesses, speaking for the 1^st respondent, it is the 1^st respondent’s case that we do not wish to lead any further evidence and therefore we are praying that this matter proceeds under Oder 36 Rule 43 and CI 87 rule 3 (e) 5, we hereby and on that basis close our case.”

However, reacting to the news on twitter, many Ghanaians have called for the EC boss to testify to clear all doubts cast on her integrity.

Patrick Mboma @Pat_mboma  noted “Was the Prez in the witness box in 2013? The issue now is Jean Mensa must mount the witness box as Afari Gyan did in 2013”.
