Match Report: Liberty Professionals 1-5 AshantiGold, Libertys’s Scientific experiment fails as Miners run riot in Sogakope
Liberty Professionals are in hot water after suffering a pummeling at the hands of AshantiGold SC on Thursday.
The Scientific Soccer Lads played host to the Miners at the WAFA Park, Sogakope for this crucial Match Week 30 encounter.
The home side are battling relegation and entered the game with the sole mindset of defeating the visitors to help their cause. Ashgold also lying in an uncomfortable position on the league log needed points from the game to sharply disengage themselves from any flirtation with the drop zone.
Liberty drew first blood in the first half after midfielder Simon Asamoah Appiah netted inside 18 minutes of play.
AshantiGold restored parity courtesy winger Amos Kofi Nkrumah after 30 minutes. The visitors added the second 4 minutes later.
David Abgna Sandan put his side ahead for the first time in the game to make the scoreline 2-1.
The sudden turn of events rendered Liberty Professionals shell-shocked and their woes were soon compounded when AshantiGold made it 3-1 just before the break.
Skipper Amos Addai scored in the second minute sof added on time to silence the home crowd.
Liberty had a herculean task to get back into the game, while AshantiGold had a healthy lead to protect.
Back from recess, Liberty keen on getting back into the game found themselves further apart their opponents when they conceded a fourth goal.
Seth Osei Kwadwo was the scorer this time around as his 60th minute striker extinguished any form of hope the home side had.
Sensing a rare opportunity, Ashgold grabbed the fifth and final goal of the game 6 minutes later. This final nail in the coffin striker came off the boot of Frank Akoto.
The game proceeded slowly from there as a deflated Liberty side could only watch powerlessly as the visitors enjoyed the moment.
Eventually the game climaxed with the scoreboard reading Liberty Professionals 1-5 AshantiGold SC.
The win sees lifts Ashgold to 9th on the league log on 40 points while Liberty are stuck at 17th on 32 points.
With 4 matches to go, the side would need to win all matches remaining to stand any bright chance of surviving relegation.
