The most powerful tool for change is the right to vote – Mahama

The 2024 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, is rallying Ghanaains who have grown disillusioned with the current government to participate in the upcoming limited voter registration.

“As young people, we hold immense power in our hands,” he said.

“The upcoming limited voter registration exercise by the Electoral Commission is, therefore, an opportunity to start the process towards making your voices heard and shaping the future of Ghana.”

The former President made this known in a Facebook Live presentation on Wednesday, September 6.

He bemoaned how the Akufo-Addo-led government has failed to address major economic challenges, leaving many with a sense of hopelessness “on a scale never witnessed in recent memory”.

But he insists that the most powerful tool for the urgent change needed is the right to vote.

“My brothers and sisters, our young people, fellow countrymen and women, it is no secret that Ghana, our beloved country, is currently grappling with a severe economic crisis.

“More than ever before, the lives of our people today are defined by a daily struggle to eke out a living. We are seeing our daily cost of living skyrocket and job opportunities becoming more difficult by the day.”

He later stressed: “This dire situation calls for urgent action, and the most powerful tool at our disposal is our right to vote.”

The former President, therefore, urged all eligible voters to register to be empowered to vote come December 7, 2024.

The limited voter registration exercise is scheduled to start on Tuesday, September 12 and end on Monday, October 2 from 8:00am to 5:00pm each day.
