Hearts of Oak win their 21st Ghana Premier League trophy

Ghanaian giants, Hearts of Oak have won their 21st Ghana Premier League title after sharing the spoils against Liberty Professionals in matchday 33 of the league.

The Phobians were held to a 1-1 draw by city-rivals at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh opened the scoring in the first half before Liberty restored parity in the second half.

Hearts of Oak had their season turned around by coach Samuel Boadu who joined the club before the start of the second half of the campaign.

However, after going several years without a major silverware, the Continental club masters have won their first major trophy since 2009 with a game to spare.

Their triumph in the 2020/21 league season means Hearts of Oak have won 21 Ghana Premier League titles and are trailing sworn rivals, Asante Kotoko by two trophies.

Hearts of Oak will travel to Sogakope to play West African Football Academy (WAFA) in the final round of matches of the Ghana Premier League.

Hearts of Oak will take home a whopping GHS 250,000 amount for emerging as champions this season.
