Vida Essel-LampteyFormer MP for North Dayi Constituency, George Loh has said the family of the murdered social activist and #FixTheCountry campaigner, Ibrahim Mohammed alias Kaaka Mucho was right in it decision not to participate in the ongoing public inquiry into the Ejura’s brutalities.
According to him, the family had no business at the committee sitting since the purpose of the inquiry was to probe into what necessitated the shooting incident which saw two dead and four others injured on July 29.
Mr Loh made the comment on Big Issue on Citi TV monitored by GhanaPlus.com on Saturday, July 10.
He also explained, Kaaka’s dead was before the court and any statement made by the family at the committee of inquiry could likely hurt the investigations and the court proceedings currently ongoing.
“Me I believe that Kaaka’s family were spot on when they decided not to cooperate with the committee or even appear before them. The question is just basic, why was the committee set up?”
“The committee was set up to find out what event led to the shooting of those people, as for Kaaka he is dead, investigations are going on, people have been arrested so why do they want to talk about those things ? They have no business in that area because if the case is before court and you are now bringing them before a public inquiry ,the things that they are going to say,is it not going to prejudice the matter that is before the court and the investigations that is going on?” he quizzed.
Ejura Committee Inquiry – We will not participate, Kaaka’s family
The family of the murdered social activist, Ibrahim Mohammed in a statement addressed to the Interior Minister , Mr Ambros Dery said the family would not participate in the ongoing public inquiry into the brutalities which occurred at Ejura on June 29, following the murder of the social activist.
The family cited eight reasons for which they could not be part of the inquiry, one of which was that the reference of the committee’s work do not relate to the circumstances which led to the death of their son, Kaaka Ibrahim.
“That, as we understand, the scope of the Committee’s terms of reference, however nebulous, does not relate to the circumstances that led to the Kaaka’s murder; or the circumstances that led to his burial. Rather that, it concerns directly, the circumstances that led to the deployment of the military to intimidate and indiscriminately shoot at a community that was grieving a loved one; and still trying to come to terms with the circumstances and motivations for his murder. In this connection, we the mother, wife, children, siblings and extended family of Kaaka are least competent to assist the Committee perform,” the statement said.
