The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale North Constituency, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini has waded into ongoing discussions about the dismissal of the Black Stars Coach, C.K Akonnor
According to him, although he had always believed the coach was not the man for the job, it was about time the country recognized that they had been living in a fool’s paradise when he comes to the ability of the current team to perform as expected.
He made the remarks while speaking on TV3 NewDay on Tuesday, September 14, monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
He explained unlike before when Ghana could boast of world ranked player, same cannot be said of the current team hence the country could not count on the quality of player to delivers as expected adding no matter the talent of a coach, the quality of players matters.
“We have to recognize the fact that we have been living in a fool’s paradise for some times now as a nation when it comes to our ability in terms of the national team. Our players are not ranked in the world today so you don’t expect any quality like we use to have with the team so no matter the talent of the coach the quality of the players actually matter and I think that clearly CK wasn’t the man for the job in my view in the first place and his situation was made worse by the kind of team he has had to work with,” he said.
Go back to the basics
He said to address the challenge the country must go back down to the schools to harness the talents and train them to produce quality players for the country.
C.K.Akonnor sacked
The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association on Monday announced the dismissal of the Black Stars Coach, Charles Akonnor and his two Assistants with immediate effect following the abysmal performance displayed by the team in a 1-nill defeat suffered in the hand of South Africa in the ongoing African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The decision follows the receipt of the Technical Report from the Head Coach of the Senior National Team and the report from the Black Stars Management Committee following Ghana’s Group G World Cup qualifying matches against Ethiopia and South Africa.
C.K Akonnor , a former player and assistant coach of the team was appointed the substantive coach on January,15 2020, following the dismal of Kwesi Appiah whom he serviced as an assistant.
He has won four(4) marches, lost four and drawn two (2) out of 10 marches played since his career begun as the head coach of the country’s national team, a development many had described as abysmal.
