Scam alert: Bank of Ghana warn Ghanaians over false 64th anniversary promo

The Central Bank of Ghana has advised the general public not to participate in suppose 64th anniversary promotion of the bank making rounds on social media.
According to them, no such promotion was being held and warned persons who engage in it do so at their own risk.
The caution was contained in a statement release on Thursday, October 14 sighted by GhanaPlus.com.
Signed by the Secretary, Ms Sandra Thompson,the release described the promotion as fraudulent and false and advised the public against it.
“It has come to the notice of the Bank of Ghana that a promotion regarding the celebration of the Bank’s 64th anniversary is circulating on social media platforms”
The Bank is not running a 64th Anniversary promotion of any kind.
“The general public is advised not to subscribe to this fraudulent activity inviting the public to select the links shared through social media which is intended to lure users to participate in the spurious promotion”.

The statement said all official communications from the bank would be made public through their website www.bog.gov.gh and also social media platforms @thebankofghana both Facebook and twitter as such any other platform which careers itself in their name is not credible.
“The general public is advice to take note and to desist from participating in such fraudulent promotions in the name of Bank of Ghana”.
“Any individual or entity that participates in such or similar schemes does so at their own peril,” the statement said.

Ghanaians financial body was established 64 years ago on March 4, two days to Ghana‘s independence on March 6.
It was created by the ordinance(No. 34) of 1957 to among other things formulate policies, implement monetary policy, issue and redeem currency notes and coins, act as a financial advisor to the government, license, regulate, promote and supervise non-banking financial institutions etc.
