The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Omni Media Limited, owners of Citi TV/FM, Mr Samuel Atta-Mensah has express worry over the church in Ghana’s support for proposed bill against LGBTQ+ currently before parliament.

In a twitter post sighted by GhanaPlus.com, he said he thinks the church should hasten slowly in throwing its weight behind the bill.

According to Mr Atta-Mensah, the bill proposes a prison terms for persons engaged in the practice and that should be of concern to the church.

“And the bill proposes what again…?? Prison term for homosexuals? And the church supports this?? The Church of Jesus Christ? I think the church should hasten slowly on this bill. It’s ok to frown on it but prison term di333…I’m not sure. Please tell the church,” his tweet reads.

He made comment on Thursday, October 13.

Churches support Anti-gay bill

The Church in Ghana has thrown it support behind the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021 since its introduction some two month ago.

According to the church, the LGBTQ+ when allowed in Ghana would erode the country’s family system as such must not be allowed.

The Chairman of the Pentecost Church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye on Wednesday, October 6 while presenting a memorandum with 15, 000 signatories to parliament in support of the bill said LGBTQ+ sought to extinct human race and that was what they abhor.

Ghana LGBTQ+ bill

The Promotion of Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021 seeks to among other things, protect the country’s family value system, curtail the activities of LGBTQ+, criminalize their activities, offer medical and rehabilitation as well as protect persons within the community from societal abuse.

Under the proposed bill, persons found culpable of LGBTQ+ activities commits a second degree felony and punishable by at least 3years imprisonment.

“A person who commit an offence under paragraph (a), (b), (c), (d), (e), (f), or  (g) of subsection (1) commit a second degree felony  and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of not less than seven hundred and fifty penalty unit or not more than five thousand penalty units or to a term of imprisonment not less than three years and not more than five years or both”.
