Residents in Western Region urged to stay on guard for minor rainy season

The Ghana Meteorological Agency has urged the people of the Western Region to prepare for the yet-to-come minor rainy season which is due from September to October this year.

In an exclusive interview with Skyy Headline News, the Regional Director of the Agency, Christian Ayi noted that, at the beginning of the year, they predicted how the weather is going to be in terms of the precipitation and the amount of rainfall which sometimes does not meet expectations.

Speaking on the issue of global warming posing a threat to climate change over the world, Mr Ayi said it is impacted by human activities comprising the burning of tires, deforestation, and the emission of poisonous gases into the atmosphere which is gradually pushing the country into global warming.

Mr Christian Ayi said, “We are expecting a minor raining season, two weeks from now or in the first week of September we will start getting our rainy season.”

“We have the major and minor rainy season, but at times, with the minor rainy season, we don’t get the amount of rain we expect, this year lucky for us, both the minor and major rainy season will be good for the farmers.”

Mr Ayi also cautioned against dumping rubbish in gutters to prevent flooding and stop building in flood-prone areas.

“Those who throw garbage in the gutters when the rains start should be very careful and desist from such acts since it comes back to hunt us.”
