Ghana join African giants for World Cup playoffs
Black Stars of Ghana join African giants for the final 2022 FIFA World Cup play-offs following their 1-0 win over South Africa.
Andre Ayew’s strike sealed all three points for Black Stars to leapfrog Bafana Bafana at the top of Group G.
Ghana started the campaign with a scrappy home win against Ethiopia at the Cape Coast Stadium.
However, the team suffered a 1-0 defeat against South Africa in the second group game at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
The defeat led to the sacking of CK Akonnor and his two assistant coaches and resulted in the re-appointment of Milovan Rajevac who defeated Zimbabwe both home and away.
However, Ghana drew 1-1 with Ethiopia before beating South Africa to seal through to the final play-offs.
The victory means Ghana join Mali, Senegal, Morocco, Egypt, and DR Congo to the play-off stage of the World Cup qualifiers.
Africa’s five World Cup representatives at Qatar 2022 will be decided when the two-legged play-offs take place in March.
