2022 World Cup qualifiers: Hugo Broos criticizes Senegalese referee after defeat to Ghana

South Africa coach, Hugo Broos has criticized the performance of Senegalese Referee Ndiaye Maguette following their slim defeat against Ghana in the World Cup qualifiers.

The Bafana Bafana suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Black Stars at the Cape Coast Stadium in the final Group G games on Sunday.

Andre Ayew’s 32nd-minute penalty was enough for the Black Stars to cruise into the final hurdle of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The victory mean the Black Stars will finish as Group G winners with 13 points and book a place in the playoffs with a goal difference.

Speaking in the post-match presser, the Belgian gaffer has expressed his displeasure on the referee’s performance accusing him of allowing Ghana to play aggressively throughout the game.

Also, he noted that he didn’t actually see clearly what the cause of the penalty was but only saw his players in an astonishing mood. He said;

“I was very disappointed with the performance of the referee because he allowed Ghana to play aggressively.”

“On the penalty, I didn’t see anything because it is most difficult to see an incident in that angle from the bench. The only thing I saw was Amartey lying down and my players looking surprised.”

“I’m disappointed today because we were very close. It was only decided with a goal difference. Like you said we did well in the last three months.

“Ghana is a very good side. They are one of the best in Africa, they have quality players and could possibly qualify. We came with just one mindset and that was to win but we came up against a strong side. No one can blame us for not qualifying.

“We should have killed it the Zimbabwe game, we should have scored more goals to qualify and that would have made it impossible for Ghana to qualify.

“It didn’t have any impact on us. I didn’t know Ghana needed just a win because i didn’t check the table, i only went to post-match five minutes after the Ethiopia game,” he added.
