The former President, John Dramani Mahama has denied the allegations made against him by the NPP Bono Regional Chairperson, Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC.
Mahama has connived with Al Qaeda to stage coup in Ghana – Abronye DC alleges
Abronya DC while speaking on Hot 93.9FM’s political talk show “Dwene Ho Bio” said the former President, John Dramani Mahama has met the Al Qaeda militants to plot a coup in Ghana.
According to him, the former President is in cohort with the militant Islamist organization founded by Osama bin Laden in the late 1980s to help him undertake a coup to oust the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo so he can become President again.
The comment has already landed him in trouble with the Ghana Police Service leading to his arrest and incarceration subsequently.
He has since been granted bail.
I have not met any militant group
However, reacting to the allegations in a Facebook post sighted by GhanaPlus.com, the former President Mahama said he has not met any group of people, let a alone a terrorist group to plot a coup in the country.
The post made on behalf of the former President by his Special Aide, Joyce Bawah Mogtari said the former President is a democrat and a strong believer in strengthening democracy hence any attempt to associate him with any anti democratic activities cannot be true.
“I have been instructed by former President John Dramani Mahama to respond to yet another publication of false and concocted stories by one Kwame Baffoe also known as Abronye from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
HE John Dramani Mahama has not met with any group of people, let alone a terrorist group, to plot to stage a coup d’etat.
President Mahama is very well known, both in Ghana and internationally, as a democrat and a strong believer in strengthening democracy not only in Ghana but across the continent of Africa. Therefore, any attempt to align or associate him with anti-democratic activities, acts of destabilization, and abuse of human and other rights cannot be true.
This is not the first time Abronye has made such despicable and reprehensible allegations and caused same to be published about President Mahama and many other leading members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This further clarification, despite reports of a police action against the said Abronye, is simply to re-emphasise President Mahama’s integrity and democratic credentials,” the post reads.
