The Member of Parliament for the Anyaa Sowutum Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi has said Ghana’s red, gold green with the black star flag, a symbol of our emancipation as a country is imported.
He made the revelation on Good Morning Africa on Pan African TV on Wednesday March 30 monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
“I really think that we need to conscientize ourselves. The Chinese eat, drink sleep their own. The Americans in as much as we don’t like Donald Trump was about everything American and that nationalist approach we need to push it a little in our country where we are for our own. Our flags are even imported”.
“Our flags, our own Ghana flags are imported and these are the things that we need to make deliberate effort,” Mr Adomako Kissi emphasized.
He expressed worry over the country’s appetite for products made outside the country and called for a paradigm shift if we desire to progress as a country.
Mr Adomako Kissi noted the responsibility lies with Ghanaians to make that decision since government have no control over such choices.
He made the comment when reacting to a revelation a made by a panelist on the programme, Edgar Weridu, an Insurance Marketer that Ghana imports $286million palm oil from Malaysia, a country that got their palm nut from Ghana years ago.
“…..I really think this is similar to a mother cooking at home and the child saying I want something outside. There is human naturaness of something outside your home being attractive and I think that we need to check it as a nation. The reason why I am saying this is that if I speak this same English in the US over a medium Ghanaians will like me but let me come and speak the same thing on the soil and huh its a whole different thing and I really think we must work out something better so that gari even if it’s from Nigeria we might prefer it than gari from Ghana. That attitude is not from government. Government is not able really to control people choosing Kumasi made sandals over Italian sandals so my only key point is that we as Ghanaians have to make deliberate effort as well such that this suit am wearing is made from Ghana. Fabric unfortunately imported by at least is hand made in Ghana”.
“…..My key point is that people importing water into this country government doesn’t have control because there is Voltic, there is Bel Aqua, there are all these in made water so what will drive somebody to do that. So my key point is that our culture about liking, wanting being more interested in foreign things, we need to curb our appetite for that…..”
We should want our own- Adomako Kissi
Mr Adomako Kissi said it is time Ghana take a lessons from countries like China, America and host of others who have developed petroninsing their own and replicate same.
“….And I really think that packaging and marketing is all still important and as part of my case is that we need to make sure we package our things well but the responsibility lies on us, we should want, we should want it. We should want our Ghanaian made things. We should grow our own, we should eat our own,” He reiterated.
