Barcelona eye summer move for Ghana and Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu
La Liga giants Barcelona are eyeing a summer move for Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu following his impressive performances for Southampton this season.
The 23-year-od has been regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League, making 32 league appearances.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Salisu is part of a five-man defender shortlist for Catalan giants ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
The other defenders being looked at include Pau Torres, Aymeric Laport, Jules Kounde, as well as Matthijs De Ligt.
Barcelona officials are expected to continue to keep tabs on these players and will make a decision on who to bring in when the summer transfer window comes around.
Salisu has risen to prominence in his first full season as a Premier League starter, although his form has dipped over the last two months.
Salisu emerged as one of the league’s most promising centre-backs throughout the start of 2022 with a stellar performance versus Manchester City.
The highly-rated defender, who played in La Liga with Real Valladolid before arriving at St Mary’s in 2020, is under contract with Southampton to 2024.
