Arise Ghana Demo: Police was professional – Security Expert

Contrary to public views that the personnel of the Ghana Police Service were unprofessional during the Arise Ghana demonstration held on Tuesday, a Foreign Policy and Security Analyst, Adib Saani said the Service was professional.

He made the comment on TV3 News @10 monitored by GhanaPlus.com on Tuesday, June 28.

According to him, he was at the demonstration grounds and can attest to the fact that, the Ghana Police Service exhibited a high sense of professionalism.

Mr Adib Saani described the service during the demonstration as well behaved, in high spirit and also friendly.

“To be honest the police was professional today. I am an ardent critic of the Ghana Police Service when they do the wrong things but today I was on the field”.

“I had the opportunity to speak to them, they were friendly. I personally listened to the IGP what he said to them.  The fact that they should see them as part of them and they should treat them the same way they will want to be treated. The atmosphere was okay, people were in high spirit, they were well behaved,” Mr Adib Saani said.

He described the development which greeted the demonstration as unfortunate and a clash of egos.

“Unfortunately, because of the two sticking point,  it culminated into violence but I think it could have been prevented, unfortunately, egos clashed and here we are today,” he added.

Arise Ghana Demo clashes with Police

The Ghana Police Service has come under public scrutiny once again following a clash between them and participants of the Arise Ghana demonstration held in Accra on Tuesday.

The demonstration dubbed #KromAy3Hye was to drum home the challenges confronting the Ghanaian in the face the current economic hardships in the country.

However, the peaceful demonstration turned bloody after a clash between the demonstrators and the Ghana Police Service over an agreed route.

TV3 news report, “Tuesday’s demonstration dubbed #KromAy3Hye demo ended abruptly after police restrained the demonstrators from pouring onto Ring Road Central to March towards the Jubilee House”.

“Stones were pelted at the police, from persons accused by organisers as “agent provocateurs” planted within them by the same police, and tear gas were fired, that certainly from the police”.

At least twelve(12 ) personnel of the service have been reported to have sustained various degrees of injuries with scores of the demonstrators sustaining same.
