Otukonor claims to buy ¢5 kenkey with Ghana card
A deputy general secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Boamah Otokunor, has joked that he bought a ball of kenkey with his Ghana card in response to a recent comment by Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia that he would choose the Ghana card over 1,000 interchanges.
In his goodwill message at the governing New Patriotic Party’s national delegates conference at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, 16 July 2022, Mr Otokunor said: “When we were coming, I decided to buy a ball of kenkey. This ball of kenkey sells for GHS”.
“The leaves on the kenkey alone will be GHS3; more expensive than the kenkey itself”.
“Guess what, ladies and gentlemen: I bought the kenkey with my Ghana card,” he added.
Dr Bawumia had said at the launch of two new high-level information technology programmes at the Accra Business School at Baatson in Accra that: “If you gave me 1,000 interchanges and the Ghana card, I would choose the Ghana card because it has more impact”.
In his view, the impact of the Ghana card on the economy far outweighs even 1,000 interchanges.
