Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has ruled that Member of Parliament for Suame and leader of the New Patriotic Party caucus, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu is the Majority Leader in the 8th Parliament.
He also ruled that Tamale South lawmaker, Haruna Iddrisu is the Minority leader.
Honourable Bagbin said on the floor of the House on Friday that there was no need to confuse the public on this matter.
He said he is guided by the Standing Orders of Parliament and he will stick to the orders at all times.
He said: “…The Standing Orders further provide that the Majority Group will be lead by a leader and that leader is referred to as Majority Leader and Order 160 and Order 168 demands that the Business Committee and the House Committee be chaired by the Majority Leader, that is the standing orders we have now and I am guided by that, I am bounded by it…
“So please, don’t keep confusing the public”.
“So the Honourable Osei-Kyei-Mensah Bonsu is the Majority Leader, the Honourable Haruna Iddrisu is the Minority Leader”.
Last week Mr Bagbin declared that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus in Parliament together with the Independent lawmaker for Fomena and, Mr Andrew Asiamah Amoako constitute the
Majority Group in Parliament after the Second Deputy Speaker officially wrote to him that he would be doing business with the NPP Caucus.
