3FM morning show host, Johnnie Hughes has paid glowing tribute to Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah 57years on after he was overthrown as leader of the country.

He described him as the real show boy adding that his legacies are unparalleled even within the short time he served Ghana as its President.

Johnnie Hughes was speaking on Johnnies Bite on Sunrise on 3FM on Friday, February 24, 2023, a day which mark the overthrow Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

“Today for me is Ghana’s day of shame and anybody who tries to change the narrative about Dr. Kwame Nkrumah himself should be totally shame. You should bow your heads in shame because Nkrumah never dies, Nkrumah is the real show boy,” he said on the programme monitored by GhanaPlus.com.

Johnnie Hughes explained Ghana is still benefiting from the major developmental projects Nkrumah established including the Tema Motorway, the Akosombo dam and host of others.

“We are still benefiting from his legacy from age in memorial. I say, tell me which of our president can measure up. Tell me which of our president have equalize what Dr. Kwame Nkrumah did even within that short period,” Johnnie Hughes added.

“Nkrumah build schools, today, children are going to school without desks, we are happy, we are making speeches. Nkrumah built factories and employed people, today, we are building factories but unemployment is higher, today people are calling for roads, Nkrumah built roads, Tema Motorway is there. People were happy,” he enumerated

The renowned broadcaster described today as Ghana’s day of shame and called on patriotic Ghanaians, if any, to rise up and demand that the right things be done without fear or favour.

Kwame Nkrumah, legacies and overthrow

Ghana’s First President Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah was overthrown on February 24, 1966 while away on a state visit to North Vietnam and China in coup d’état led by Joseph Arthur Ankrah’s National Liberation Council with backing from the civil service.

He was elected President in 1960 after the approval of a new constitution and 8years after he became the Prime Minister in 1952 and retaining the position when Ghana declared independence from Britain in 1957.

The Ghanaian politician was a political theorist, a revolutionary, an influential advocate of Pan-Africanism and founding member of the Organization of African Unity.

He was winner of the Lenin Peace Prize from the Soviet Union in 1962.

Kwame Nrumah was the founder of the Ghana’s Convention Peoples Party (CPP) which led Ghana to independence in 1957 and championed major interventions for Ghana and Africa.

His ultimate vision was to see Africa unit as one nation and form a formidable force in the world.
