Daycare at Anaji catches fire – Skyy Power FM
A fire outbreak at the Hablyn Montessori Daycare in Anaji in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region has destroyed properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis.
The fire started at about 9:00 am on Tuesday, April 25, destroying 2 rooms which served as accommodation for tenants at the Montessori Daycare.
Upon Skyy Power FM journalists reaching the scene, the Ghana National Fire Service with two fire tenders were trying to extinguish the inferno.
According to reports, no injuries or fatalities were recorded.
A witness who spoke to Skyy News said, “I was at my office when I received an emergency call concerning the fire outbreak, I had to leave whatever I was doing to come and check on the situation… The fire started from one room and what we did was to remove all items in the room.”
“The Fire Service were called but upon reaching the scene, they told us there is no water in their Fire Tender so they had to call for backup from Sekondi… this delayed the situation, if not for that, the fire wouldn’t have affected the other rooms.”
The Municipal Fire Commander for the Ghana National Service, DO3 Bernard Adjei speaking to Skyy News said they had to call for assistance from Sekondi before they could combat the fire.
“We had a call at about 9 am concerning the fire situation, due to the intensity, we called for a backup from Sekondi, and we used about 1 hour to extinguish the fire… we found so many inflammable cans in the room where the fire started but the cause is yet to be established.”
He also advised the general public on fire safety and how to prevent fire saying, “Ghanaians should make sure they switch off all electrical appliances when leaving the house and also make sure the burglar proofs they use are types that can be opened in case there is a fire outbreak.
