The Director of Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Abraham Amaliba has said the Economy Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is desecrating Ghana hosting its meetings to attack Niger following the political crises in the country.
According to him, Ghana is a beacon of African’s liberation hence meetings which are not peace intended must not be held here.
He explained on occasions when such meetings had been held in Ghana, it was to seek peace and not to preach war.
Mr Amiliba was speaking on Big Issue on TV3 on Friday, August 18, monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
“Today, they are still meeting, still desecrating the country that was a platform to liberate other countries. Ghana is a mother for liberation movement, we don’t use Ghana to attack our sister countries. ….. The time we use Ghana as a meeting place was to go and make peace in some countries,” Mr Amaliba said.
“Anytime that we use Ghana as a platform, it was to go and bring peace with our neighbouring countries and our brothers and sisters. We don’t use Ghana to go and kill our brothers and sisters,” he emphasized.
The NDC member slammed the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for allowing such a meeting in the country describing him as a scar on the conscience of Ghanaians.
“Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, this name Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is a scar on the conscience of the good people of Ghana. For him to allow Ghana’s territory to be use as a platform to agree to attack another African country is a desecration of our territory,” Mr Amaliba said.
ECOWAS Army Chiefs in Ghana over Niger coup
Army Chiefs of ECOWAS are currently in Ghana for a two-day extraordinary meeting on sending troops to Niger to restore constitutional order.
The meeting being hosted in Ghana’s capital Accra is to among other things finalize plans for the deployment of the Standby Force to Niger as part of intervention to reinstate ousted President, Mohamed Bazoum.
Niger coup
Niger’s military seized power on July 26, 2023 after the President, Mohamed Bazoum was detained by presidential guards.
Presidential guard commander general Abdourahamane Tchiani subsequently on July 28 delared himself the leader of a new military junta and head of state shortly after confirming the coup a success.
