Ofori-Atta speaks on calls for his resignation again – says he has gone through the aches and pains

The Minister of Finance, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta has assured Ghanaians and the business community that he is capable of managing the economic affairs of the country.

Speaking at a meeting with the Association of Ghana Industries(AGI) in Accra, on Thursday, November 3, he said he has gone through it all and knows what he is about as far as the economy and his task is concerned.

“Just to assure you that you have a Finance Minister who has gone through all the pains and the aches, nobody can really come and say you don’t understand what we were doing,” he said.

“The questions is, what resources do we have? How we are going to deploy them in the nation that we have? How do you stand firm in very difficult circumstances by being very confident that the nation is purposed for greatness and you are blessed to have the opportunity to lead where we are going?,” Mr Ofori-Atta added.

“Let me assure you all that your best bet is still Ghana, we can do it, we should do it,” he said.

Ofori-Atta must go

Mr Ofori-Atta’s comment comes in the wake of several calls for his resignation or relieve by the President following the country’s economic woes which began early this years.

I can’t leave my children

But Mr Mr Ofori-Atta earlier  in a viral video sighted by GhanaPlus.com said asking him to resign is like asking a father to step aside from his children because he changed his mind about something.

”It is almost like telling a father to resign from his children because he has changed his mind,” he said.

He explained sometimes decisions have to be made for survival and that is what the country did.

“There are times that decisions have to be made for the survival of the country and therefore, if such circumstances such as Covid or Ukraine war occur which are not typical, it does change the environment,” Mr Ofori-Atta said again.

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has also expressed confident in the Finance Minister adding that he does not see any reason to heed to the call.
