The 18th-annual biggest Christmas attraction in Ghana, the Westside Carnival has attracted over 250,000 to the Western Region’s capital, Sekondi-Takoradi.
The Westside Carnival as it always does has once again put the city on the map with visitors from all over the world trooping in to celebrate the vibrant culture of the Western Region.
The three days of the colourful and exciting street festival featured music, masquerades, brass bands, and a diverse line-up of artists including Hezron Clark, Kofi Kinatta, Joyce Blessing, Adina, Singlet and many others.
The unforgettable celebration saw visitors touring our experiential centres, savouring local cuisine, and enjoying an amazing beer festival.
The key attraction, the masquerader’s fashion parade saw the grand procession of 50,000 masquerades on 26th December.
Other activities included the Tasty Tom Traditional Cooking competition/International Jollof Cooking competitions, the brass band festival in which the Evergreen Movement Band came out top and performances from the Star Dreamers.
The 26th December night climaxed with a performance from the Western’s Finest, Kofi Kinaata, Adina, and Hezron Clarke.
The event, not only did it bring happiness to the people of Takoradi and beyond but had a huge impact on the region’s economy with the presence of over 250,000 visitors.
Indigenes who took advantage of the event speaking to Skyy News indicated that business was very lucrative during the whole event period.
One of the industries that also benefitted from the period was the hospitality industry, as hotels were booked to capacity and places of centres of entertainment were filled to the max.
