55 Students and Staff of Accra Girls SHS test positive to COVID-19

The Ghana Health Service and the Ghana Education Service has confirmed 55 cases of COVID-19 in the Accra Girls SHS.
“As of 13 July 2020, a total of 314 persons (student and staff) from the school have been tested. Out of these, 55 have been confirmed positive for COVID-19 while 259 persons tested negative,” the statement said.
The statement however assured parents and guardians of the safety of their wards irrespective of the development.
“Ghana Education Service working with Ghana Health Service wishes to inform parents, guardians, and the general public that efforts are being made to ensure the safety of our staff and students.”
Measures Put in Place at Accra Girls SHS

Parents rushed to the Accra Girls SHS for their ward after the first 6 cases were recorded.
To curtail the spread of the disease any further, the two institutions said they have put in place adequate measures and enhanced already existing protocols.
Some of the measures include identification and segregation of contact from other students, laboratory testing of all contacts identified and suspected cases, transfer of all confirmed cases to designated national isolation centers for management, etc.
“The school has designated a quarantine and isolation center, Adequate PPES have been provided to health staff stationed in the school,” the statement said.
Counseling and education on COVID-19 preventive and control have also been intensified within the school to help equip students at the personal management level.
COVID-19 Case in the Senior High School
The Accra Girls Senior High School, on July 6, 2020, was reported to have recorded some six cases of the COVID-19 pandemic causing parents to rush to the school for their ward.
