706 road crashes recorded in 2023 in the Western Region

706 incidents of traffic crashes were reported in the Western Regional Office of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) last year, according to their road traffic performance report.
According to the data, the total number registered in 2023 and 2022 was the same.

According to the figures, there were 97 fatalities and 652 injuries in 2022, but between January and December of 2023, a total of 120 people died and 687 were hurt in these types of crashes.
A total of 474 private, 466 commercial, and 344 motorcycles and tricycles were involved in these traffic accidents.

According to the records, there were 151 knockdowns in 2023 as opposed to 458 knockdowns in private and commercial cars, 346 knockdowns involving motorcycles and tricycles, and 144 knockdowns involving pedestrians in the same time frame in 2022.

According to the distribution of fatalities by vehicle type, 32 people died from pedestrian knockdowns, 43 from motorcycle and tricycle accidents, and 41 and 36 from commercial and private vehicle crashes.

In terms of injuries, 269 and 196 people were hurt in private and commercial cars, respectively; 222 people were hurt in motorbikes and tricycles, and 119 people were knocked down.

The data also showed that during the Christmas holiday, the Western Region documented 18 occurrences of traffic crashes that resulted in three fatalities and sixteen injuries.

The cases were documented from December 24, 2023, to December 26, 2023, and from December 31, 2023, to January 1, 2024, respectively.

Between December 24 and 26, 2023, two people died and ten people had varying degrees of injuries; in contrast, between December 31, 2023, and January 1, 2024, there was one accident that resulted in one death and six injuries.

Between December 24 and 26, 2023, a total of seven and eight private and commercial cars, as well as five motorbikes and tricycles, were engaged in these traffic accidents. Two people were also injured.

Road incidents involving three motorcycles and tricycles, five private and commercial cars, and two people who were knocked down are documented between December 31, 2023, and January 1, 2024.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Victor Kojo Bilson, the NRSA’s Western Regional Head, urged drivers to follow traffic laws to maintain best practices, prevent accidents, and lessen associated events.
