Residents of the Funkoe and New Amanful communities in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region are struggling over transportation as a result of the deplorable nature of roads.
Funkoe and New Amanful are two communities which harbors some factories, companies, beautiful beaches, private estates and the gateway for new houses.
Students and workers will always have to report to their various destinations late and not only that but struggle even to get vehicles to commute.
This is a result of commercial drivers boycotting the usage of the Funkoe and New Amanful road with the excuse of its being unmotorable.
On Tuesday, August 1, scores of students and workers were stranded at the Funkoe trotro station in Takoradi because drivers were not willing to transport them as a result of their deplorable roads.
Some drivers who spoke to Skyy News said they are now running at a lost, because they always have to visit the mechanical shop which is “eating” into their profits.
They said they have made several appeals to the assembly and other government officials but till date, nothing, nothing has still be done on the road.

However, the poor state of our roads have ceased improvement taking into consideration , swift delivery of services especially to town. Students get to school late, Workers have to be at the road side or station by 6am and still get to work late due to lack of transport means. Aside the popular 2 O 7 vehicles, Its hard to see other cars trooping in for Passengers. Some taxi drivers who rides in town parks their cars and fight with the vulnerable in getting a trotro. Taxi’s who usually favor us in the morning also come once and do not return all because of the fear of car damage.
The issue of pregnant women suffering injuries would be another topic but imagine the trauma they go through.
During rain or shine, we are the only communities that form a long queue daily at our station /rank.

Drivers said if nothing is still done up to date, then they will boycott using the road completely.
