The Member of Parliament for the Jirapah Constituency, Mr Cletus Seibu Dapilah has blamed challenges confronting Africa, including the current political crises in Mali on the hypocritical behavior of leaders of the West African bloc.
Speaking on Pan African Television’s morning current affairs programme, Good Morning Africa, he described the African leaders as dishonest people offering bad leadership and that was responsible for the crises in Mali and other countries.
He noted, their inability to provide proper checks and balances on each other was due to the fact that all of them were involved in one unacceptable practice or the other adding all they do was meet, eat and find ways to protect each other’s rot.
“The issue about the Malian crises and the ECOWAS leadership saying that they are reiterating their commitment to solving it, Justice the issue is not about the people fighting, is about the hypocrisy of our leaders, you see they won’t talk straight they are all friends to these parties. You see the African continent, we talk too much, little actions.
“So for me …going into the details I just want to say that the problem is these gentlemen that you have seen on your page. They are the problem, they are not honest, they are not telling us the truth, they are offering bad leadership in Africa,” he said.
ECOWAS suspend Mali
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) member was speaking on the programme monitored by GhanaPlus.com on Monday, May 31, 2021.
He was speaking about the suspension of the membership of Mali from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) after a second coup within nine months.
ECOWAS took the decision after and extra ordinary summit in Accra on Saturday to deliberate on the political crises in Mali.
“The suspension from ECOWAS takes immediate effect until the deadline of the end of February 2022 when they are supposed to hand over to a democratically elected government,” Minister of Foreign Affairs Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey explained after the meeting.
Africa will be better with honest leaders
Mr Dapila indicated with honest leadership, the continent was sure of making some good head way and improving livelihood of many who were suffering and urged African leaders to stay true to their responsibilities to change the fortunes of the continent.
“Leadership should be very strict and honest, if we get honest leadership, many of the Issues in Africa we will not be going through them,” he said.
