I will scrap payment of ex gratia when elected president – Mahama – Skyy Power FM

Former president John Dramani Mahama, says he will scrap the payment of ex gratia to members of the executive under article 71 of the constitution if he gets the opportunity to become president again.

He was speaking at the launch of his campaign in an effort to become the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer in the general elections of 2024.

His campaign which is on the theme,’ Building Ghana We Want Together’ took place in the Cedi Auditorium at the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ho, in the Volta Region.

Mr John Mahama said Ghana needs experience and not experimentation and that the country needs a leader with an unwavering will, someone who can hit the ground running on 7th January 2025.

He also spoke about the state of the economy saying it the NPP government has been clueless and in many ways callous.

“Our country today is broken on all fronts, Ghana is bankrupt, we are saddled with debt we simply cannot pay and have been downgraded by all credit agencies to the lowest level ever seen in our history… Our economy is in the west ever shape, with suffering and pain at an unprecedented level.”

Speaking at the launch, the Dean of Regional Chairmen of the NDC Akwasi Agyepong flanked by some of the regional chairmen said John Mahama is the most qualified and deserving among the flagbearer ship candidates.

Aside from the former president, Dr Kwabena Duffour, a former Finance Minister, Kojo Bonsu, a former Mayor of Kumasi, and Ernest Kobeah, a 43-year-old businessman based in the United Kingdom, are all running for the job.
