Alan Kyeremanten backs off from NPP's flagbearer race

A flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has resigned from the party’s contest, alleging favouritism and intimidation as his reasons.

After the Special Delegates elections on August 26, 2023, Mr. Kyerematen was one of five candidates chosen to vie for the Party’s flagbearer post. The election will take place on November 4.

Mr. Kyerematen said in a statement released on Tuesday in Accra that the activities preceding up to, during, and following the party’s Special Electoral College elections were “strategically and tactically” skewed in favour of a particular Aspirant.

He said that the statements made by several prominent party members both before and after the elections “lent weight” to his choice to withdraw from the race.

The amount of intimidation, of variable severity, both directly and indirectly, unleashed on some delegates at various Voting Centres around the sixteen regions, according to the former trade minister, was unparalleled in the party’s history.

The events, numerous violent activities, and cooperation, according to him, were reported in other voting centres.

After conferring with his family, well-wishers, as well as other stakeholders and interest groups, Mr. Kyerematen declared that he would offer a hint as to his role in Ghanaian politics in the upcoming weeks.

He said thanks to his loved ones, the Alan 4 President (A4P) Campaign Team, and all of his many supporters in Ghana and all around the world. He also wished the other Aspirants well on their remaining journeys.
