Alan Kyeremanten’s transformational plans for Western Region – Skyy Power FM

Aspiring Presidential flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten has listed four (4) transformational plans that will change the future of the Western Region.

Speaking on Skyy Power 93.5FM on Friday, April 21, Mr Kyeremanten said he has a clear vision and a plan to transform every region in the country by capitalising on their major resources.

He stated that the Western Region is blessed with the majority of the country’s resources, which he plans to enhance by adding value to them by processing them in the region.

He said, “Mineral resource development is one of my goals for the region, lets’s take gold for example, in the course of processing it, we can get valuable by-products like silver and others which will bring in additional revenue to the country, and all these processing of the resource will be done in the Western Region.”

The former Trade Minister noted that oil and gas extraction is the region’s second revolutionary plan. Mr Alan stated that most African countries, including Ghana, sell their oil and gas without adding value to the resource, which he believes is a mistake.

“When you add value to oil by processing them, you can get plastic, bitumen, petroleum jelly, fertilizer and others… Adding value to oil and gas in the Western Region is one of my number one priorities, it will create jobs, it will bring us foreign exchange, and we need the petrochemical industry to be developed as a matter of urgency,” Mr Kyeremanten said.

He further added that the bitumen as a by-product from oil production can be used to construct all the roads in the region and some other parts of the country.

Speaking on his third plan, Mr Kyeremanten noted the industrial transformation of the Western Region. He said since the region is endowed with resources, most industries that will be set up will get about 95% of their raw materials for production. Mr Kyeremanteng said “The region is gradually becoming an industrial hub, now there are about three (3) companies producing tiles in the Shama District which they get about 95% of their resources in the area after which they export these materials.

He said there are many things that can be manufactured in the region and getting raw materials for it will not be a problem.

On his final transformational plan, Mr Kyeremanteng noted the agricultural revolution in the region. He indicated that agriculture must be developed into a business, stating most of the farming done in the region is small-scale farming which can only feed a small number of people.

“If we want to develop agriculture as a business we need to go into large-scale farming, in terms of lands for this project, it is not a problem for the Western Region because they have a vast land size for it,” he noted.
