Facts that were gathered from a stakeholder’s engagement in relation to the sale of the Anaji CK Mann Park is that the five acres of land have been leased to private investors for 60 years.

The secretary of the Anaji Estate Residents Association, Mr David Akorful made this known during the meeting and indicated the State Housing Corporation gave up this information after a follow-up on the matter.

Also, the park was sold way back in 2019, and the investor decided to start his development in 2023.

He said State Housing Corporation is not the owner of the land and has no right to lease it but the land is from the Ministry of Works and Housing.

Also, State Housing Corporation was only contracted to build lands in the Anaji Estate area and they don’t own any land in the Anaji area.

Mr Akorful said the community wants the park to be maintained since it serves a very important purpose to the community and leaving it in the hands of a sole person will limit their access and lose full control.

Background:

Residents of Anaji Estate, in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region, have bemoaned the sale of the CK Mann Park to a private investor.

The Anaji CK Mann Park according to the residents is a very important asset to the community as it serves as an event centre, football field and other important purposes.

The Anaji Estate Association chairman, Mr Sydney Cofie speaking during a meeting among residents on Sunday, January 22, said the park belongs to the community and was initially meant for the development of a market but since the project keeps delaying, it was converted into a football park.

However, they were shocked to realise that the very ‘heart’ of the community has been allegedly sold by the Assembly member of Anaji West, Mr John Davis who is also the Presiding Member (PM) of the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly.

According to Mr Sydney, since Mr Davis is aware of the Anaji Estate Association, they should have been contacted and made aware of the sale of the park.

Since they were not contacted, they disapprove of the sale of the park and will resist any development at the location.

Mr John Davis speaking to Skyy Power FM’s journalist Alex Tagoe confirmed the sale of the CK Mann Park to a private investor who will be developing it into an ultra-modern sports complex and business centre.

He indicated the redevelopment will comprise an astroturf football park, basketball court and a business/event centre.

According to him, the State Housing Corporation and EKMA agreed to the sale of CK Mann Park since it conformed with their development plan.

Mr Davis revealed the park was sold to the owner of the Shelleyco Petroleum Gas Station.
