Chief of Bonsa Wire in the Western Region, Nana Akwesi Ampong has condemned the attack by a group of armed illegal miners on employees and offices of Golden Star Wassa Limited (GSWL).

This comes after armed men set ablaze vehicles, including an ambulance that served both the community and employees of the company, aside from 12 other cars and the GSWL administrative block.

Speaking exclusively to Skyy News, he indicated that they are planning on meeting the management of Golden Star Wassa Limited and security agencies in the district to apologise and assure them that such acts of nuisance will not repeat themselves.

He said, “What has happened is not commendable and as chiefs of the land, we have condemned the act… We will go and meet the company together with the security agencies and dialogue with them on the possible way forward and prevent any future attacks.”

In a related development, the Western Regional Police Command said 33 people were arrested in connection with the attack on Golden Star Wassa Mine.

Nana Akwesi Ampong urged the police to do a thorough investigation on the matter and fish out the suspects who committed the crime and release the innocent.

“The police need to investigate the arrested persons because I don’t believe all of them were involved in the act, so when we meet with the police, we will plead with them to release those involved in the act,” he added.
