The Western Regional Director of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) Mr Martin Kusi, says Ghanaians should know what they eat and live a healthy lifestyle through dieting.
Mr Kusi speaking to Skyy News said not every food is meant for consumption because a lot of the food in today’s market is junk which brings about some health complications for the consumer.
He said one of the best ways to stay healthy is knowing what you eat and since about ninety-eight per cent (98%) of Ghanaians consume food from the street, hygiene should be a priority and the environment in which the food is sold should be considered by the consumer.
He said, “If you take your health seriously, then you should do these three things; most of us don’t take our health seriously and the first thing is that we should cut down the junk food in the market, a lot of them contain oil and we should stop eating that.
“Secondly, we should look at the environment we are buying from, we should not buy from food joints closer to refuse dumps or open drains. They are very dangerous due to the number of house flies in that location because they can step on your food and give you problems.”
“Also, we should wash our hands thoroughly with soap under running water, because most of the places we touch contain germs so washing our hands will really help. If you are able to do this thing, you will reduce your risk of getting sick.
