District Assembly elections in Tarkwa-Nsuaem progress peacefully

In the Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituency, the district and unit committee elections are proceeding amicably.
Voters were trickling in to cast their ballots for their favourite candidates as the media visited several voting places in Tarkwa this morning. There were no lines.

Police were present, most candidates’ agents were spotted doing nothing, and there had been no incidents.

Six hundred twelve people were anticipated to cast ballots at the Post Office 1 Polling Station when voting opened at 0700 hours. But as of 08:43, 17 people have cast ballots.

No challenge had been faced, the presiding officer, Mr. Felix Nana Krofuah, informed the GNA.
Of the 636 registered voters at the Post Office 2 Polling Station, 18 had cast ballots.

The presiding officer, who begged to remain anonymous, stated that because their voting materials came on time, they began at the appointed 0700 hours.

As of 09:29 hours, 37 out of the 493 eligible voters had cast their ballots at the Cyanide Type ‘B’ Polling Station.

As of 09:38, 52 people have cast ballots out of the 682 expected voters at the Cyanide Compound DX polling place.

Although they started the exercise at precisely 0700 hours, the polling station presiding officers—who also wished to remain anonymous—said their biometric equipment kept freezing.

As of 09:48, 26 voters out of 461 registered voters have cast ballots at the Community Development Office ‘A’ polling location, whereas the Community Development.

Office ‘B’ Polling Station, only 19 out of 460 registered voters had cast their ballot as at 0949 hours.
The presiding officers said they started on time but the turnout was low. “We are hopeful more people will cast their votes before voting closes at 5:00 pm.”

According to the Electoral Commission, 18,580 persons are contesting the DLEs with 17,474 being males.
Some 4,336 persons are also vying for Unit Committee positions.

Assembly and Unit Committee Members have a four-year tenure.

The elections are, however, not being held in the Nkoranza North and South in the Borno East region because the Assembly and Unit Committee Members were elected in December, 201
