Ace Security Analyst and Executive Director of Security Warehouse, Adam Bonaa has caution Parliament against approving the President’s appointee for the Fisheries and Aquaculture Development , Ms Mavis Hawa Koomson.
According to him, Ms Hawa Koomson, a Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya East Constituency and a former Minister for Special Initiative Development does not qualify to carry herself as a member of the executive due to his public records of violent.
“Am sure our Members of Parliament from the NDC, from the NPP side are listening that they should not dare approve someone like Hawa Koomson, she is not suitable to occupy the position of a minister of state
Mr Bonaa made the comment in an interview with TV3 News@10 on Thursday, January 21, 2021 monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
Vote against Hawa Koomson
He explained, although, the President might have his reasons to have appointed her again into his executives in his second term, he believed, the MP had done enough already and should be limited to his legislative duties and representing her people only, going forward and urged parliament to vote against her.
“Some of us our going to urge our parliamentarians, those who will be vetting her to ensure that they vote against her and if they vote against her per the Constitution, the President will have no choose than to replace her”.
“Hawa Koomson I will say that, yes, the President might want to add her to his appointees going forward but some of us think that she had done enough; she should just probably be preoccupied with MP life and not have anything to do with the executive. She should just be in the legislative chamber and not be parading and be caring fire arm and be given warning shot” he added.
Mr Bonaa indicated with the current composition of Ghana’s parliament, it wouldn’t be difficult to vote against her appointment to force the President to choose another in her stead.
“So as far as am concern, am sure that we have a parliament that is sharply divided into two so they will vote against her and I do believe that both sides will see the need to vote against Hawa Koomson,” he said.
Hawa Koomson fires gun shot at registration center
The Member of Parliament for the Awutu East Constituency and former Minister for Special Initiative Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson have come under several criticism after admitting to have fired a warning shot at registration center at her constituency in the Central Region during the voters registration exercise for the 2020 elections.
According to her, she fired the gun in the absence of her security guard to protect herself.
Many, including the Christian Council of Ghana, Civil Society Organizations(NGO) and well meaning Ghanaians have called for her head but the President had remained adamant to the calls till date.
The matter is still under investigation according to the Ghana Police Service.
