Earthquake: Akufo-Addo mourns with Turkey/ Syria, prays Atsu be found safe and sound

Vida Essel-LampteyThe President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has sent his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Turkey and Syria following the devastating earthquake claimed over 2000 lives on Monday alone.
He also prayed Ghana’s top player and Former Chelsea and Newcastle United star, Christian Atsu be found safe and in good health.
Turkey and Syria earthquake: Over 2,000 reported death
The two countries were hit by a 7.8 magnitude quake struck near Gaziantep on Monday, February 6, morning at about 13:30 local time (10:30 GMT).
Described as a massive aftershock with a magnitude of 7.5, the earthquake hit Turkey’s south hours after the original quake and affected mostly southern Turkey and northern Syria.
Some 2,300 people have been reported death in the two countries with some further 6,000 reported injured in Turkey alone.
Rescue operations are currently underway to find more survivors of the devastating incident.
Thousands including Ghana’s top star and Former Chelsea and Newcastle United star, Christian Atsu believed to have been trapped in rubbles are also yet to be found.
Akufo-Addo react to earthquake in Turkey/Syria
Reacting to the news, in a Facebook post sighted by GhanaPlus.com, the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo extended a heartfelt condolence on behalf of Ghana to the two countries and prayed for the souls of the departed to rest in peace.
His prayers and that of Ghana, he said are also with the survivors and pray for Ghana’s own, Christian Atsu, to be found safe and sound.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, I extend heartfelt condolences to the Governments and peoples of Turkey and Syria on the devastation and the tragic loss of lives occasioned by Monday’s earthquake. May their souls rest in perfect peace,” part of President Akufo-Addo’s post reads.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the survivors, and we pray that our fellow Ghanaian, Christian Atsu, is found safe and sound,” President Akufo-Addo said.
