ECG debunks rumours on closure of their offices and customer service centres – Skyy Power FM
The Western Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has debunked rumours relating to the closing down of their offices and customer service centres.
Mr Benjamin Quarcoo speaking on the Jolly Breakfast Show told the general public to disregard such rumours and indicated that all their offices and customer service centres will not be closed down for any reason.
He explained that ECG will from Monday, March 20, to Thursday 20th April 2023 embark on a massive disconnection exercise in a bid to mobilise revenue targeting residential and non-residential customers who owe ECG huge amounts of money.
According to him, the exercise is using almost all ECG staff, from top management to junior officers to retrieve all the monies owed to them.
Mr Quarcoo noted that the company is owed over GHS 5 billion from the month of September 2022 to February 2023. Most of this debt resides with the SOEs and MDAs.
He said, “There are rumours that we are closing all our offices and customer service centres which has caused panic buying of the prepaid unit, I will urge the general public to debunk these rumours because we are only embarking on an exercise and will be using almost all ECG staff, from top management to junior staff… This does not include customer service representatives at our service centres.”
He added that customers must make use of their e-payment system to pay their bills as it reduces pressure at their customer service centres and is also more convenient.
“Our aim of the smart metering system is to minimise the visit of customers to our offices and service centres and also make it more convenient for our customers as they can buy prepaid units from their homes at any time” He added.
“We are still training more vendors for people who still prefer to come to our offices and customer service centres and very soon, we will have enough for our ride range of customers.”
