Effia-Kwesimintim Municipal Assembly supports 438 LEAP beneficiaries

As part of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) initiative, the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA) has so far given financial assistance to 438 residents of the Municipality who are in extreme poverty.

There are 63 men and 375 women among the recipients who were selected from nine communities.

In a media interview, Mr. Kojo Acquah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of EKMA, disclosed that the Assembly had paid out a total of GH242,395.92 to the 438 beneficiaries since January 2020.

He stated that the LEAP Program was established, among other things, to lessen the recipients’ suffering and give them access to healthcare.

The MCE said the Assembly was waiting to receive funds from the Government this year to undertake more disbursement exercises to alleviate their hardship and ensure access to healthcare services.   

Mr Acquah announced that the two Senior High Schools (SHS) in the Municipality had recorded high enrollment by the introduction of the Government’s Free Senior High School Policy.   

He said some 5,650 students, consisting of 3,746 males and 1,904 females, had benefited from the programme in the Municipality.
