EKMA elects new Presiding Member

The Effia-Kwesimintsin Municipal Assembly’s new presiding member, Mr Philip Evans Nyarko, the Assembly member representing the Effia Electoral Area, was sworn in on Monday.

Mr. Nyarko defeated Mr. John Davies, the outgoing Presiding Member, by receiving 19 of the 23 votes cast in the district-level elections held on December 19.

Dr Clifford Braimah, the Managing Director of Ghana Water Company, who presided over the new assembly in place of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, issued a warning to its members, advising them to carry out their task of organising, planning, and securing funding for socio-economic development.

“As assemblies, you do not have to look to Accra for basic public services; work hard and find innovative means of letting local resources transform the lives of the people,” he added.

To guarantee successful decentralisation, Dr Braimah urged the assembly members to become knowledgeable about the legislation controlling their mandate and act accordingly.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Kojo Acquah, advised the assembly members to collaborate with their elected representatives to enhance cleanliness and communal living.

He declared that the government would not back down from helping the different electoral districts achieve their regional socioeconomic goals.
